Adult Services

Our adult neuropsychology clinic evaluates cognitive, psychological, and adaptive functioning in adolescents (16 years and older) and adults with brain-related conditions. We diagnose issues related to neurological disorders, such as those found in patients with brain injuries, dementia, and other conditions by using tests involving such things as puzzles, written tasks and computer-based activities to understand how a person’s brain is functioning. The goal is to help our patients understand their cognitive strengths and weaknesses and to help develop strategies or treatments to manage their condition and improve their daily life.

What we do

  • Conduct evaluations: They assess cognitive skills like memory, attention, language, and executive function through a variety of methods.
  • Perform tests: This can include oral and written questions, puzzles, and computer-based tasks.
  • Gather information: They collect medical and psychological history and may also speak with family members to get a complete picture of the patient's symptoms and changes.
  • Diagnose and report: They analyze test results to create a detailed report that explains how different cognitive functions are working. This report is shared with the patient and with their healthcare team.
  • Provide recommendations: They offer feedback, help patients understand the impact of their cognitive changes, and suggest treatments or coping mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with a team: They often work alongside other medical professionals like neurologists, neurosurgeons, and psychologists.

Examples of conditions they evaluate

  • Neurological disorders: Dementia (including Alzheimer's), stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis.
  • Brain injuries: Traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
  • Neurodevelopmental disorders: Learning Disabilities and ADHD.
  • Mental health conditions: Chronic mental health issues like schizophrenia.
  • Other conditions: Brain tumors and the effects of certain medications on cognition.
  • Please note that we do NOT perform autism evaluations.
